With the arrival of the new Virginia Tech Shock Tube Testing Facility, our group has been developing a computational fluid dynamics model to accurately describe the gas-detonation mechanics of oxy-acetylene combustion. Using comparable pneumatically-driven shock tubes as a design analogue, we’ve been developing preliminary analyses to describe the blast parameters developed by a combustion-driven simulator without modelling the combustion itself. A sneak peek of our modelling progress is shown in the video below. This numerical study will be used to validate the performance of the gas-detonation simulator.
